2. Mensura in musica est ordo cantuum mensuratorum secundum sua nomina et figuras:

3. secundum sua nomina, ut est quilibet cantus planus, qui secundum suum nomen mensuram habet, supra vel infra quam non potest,

4. ut est perfectus, imperfectus, plusquamperfectus, mixtus, et commixtus;

5. secundum vero suas figuras, ut est quilibet cantus tempore mensuratus,

6. de qua mensura per nos alibi est tractandum.

7. Sed quia quilibet cantus, sive sit perfectus sive imperfectus et cetera, de aliquo modorum existit,

8. iccirco quid sit modus et quot sint et qui et quomodo variantur necessario est videndum.
