for the History of Music Theory

PUBLICATIONS
A number of monographs relevant to the history of music theory have been associated with our activities and personnel.
This fortunate series of publication, which predates the foundation of the center, had the aim of establishing critical texts for important works of ancient, medieval, and (occasionally) Renaissance music theory in Greek and Latin. The critical text is accompanied by facing-page translations with introductions illuminating the content of the treatises.
A series of individual monographs, catalogues, and bibliographies pertaining to the Center's broad areas of interest and its specific projects.
Initiated and directed by Thomas J. Mathiesen at Indiana University, GLMT and PCHMTL were published by the University of Nebraska Press. These volumes are out of print but often found on the used book market.
Founded and directed by Thomas J. Mathiesen, Studies in the History of Music Theory and Literature (SHOMTL) continues the tradition established by the two earlier series: individual monographs, editions, translations, catalogues, and bibliographies are published by the University of Illinois Press.
